Okra
In the last five years Okra cultivation in India and its demand has significantly increased due to the advent of new short internode genetics that is highly tolerant to both the yellow vein mosaic virus (YVMV) as well as okra leaf curl virus (OLCV). Tierra has focused its breeding program to deliver hybrids that are not only resistant to both the viruses but also have wide adaptability over seasons & geographies. Focus is to deliver pods of various sizes to suit different culinary dishes. We are also working on traits to improve harvesting of edible as well as mature pods to make them labour efficient. Developing hybrids for better nutritional quality, heat & cold tolerance is also underway.
